Font License Agreement
Last updated November 6, 2026
License at a glance
One purchase gives one person a perpetual license to use one Font Product in any personal or commercial project, including print, merchandise, logos, video, websites, apps, e-books and client work. There are no tiers, traffic caps or upgrades. Two rules carry the license: never hand anyone the font file in a form they can use, and never let other people type their own text in the font.
This summary is for convenience only. See the full terms below.

1. Agreement and acceptance
This Font License Agreement ("Agreement") is a contract between you ("Licensee" or "you") and the owner and operator of design.dev ("design.dev", "we" or "us").
1.1 Acceptance
You accept this Agreement by proceeding to checkout, or by downloading, installing or using the Font Software, whichever happens first. If you do not agree, do not buy, download, install or use the Font Software.
1.2 Organizations
If you accept on behalf of a company or other organization, you confirm you have authority to bind it. "Licensee" then means that organization.
1.3 What forms your license
Each purchase is a separate license. Your license consists of this Agreement, in the version published on the date of purchase, plus your order confirmation ("Receipt"). Keep your Receipt as proof of license.
1.4 Licensed, not sold
The Font Software is licensed to you, not sold. We grant only the rights this Agreement states and reserve all others.
1.5 Version
This is version 1.0 of this Agreement, last updated November 6, 2026.
2. Definitions
- Font Software: the font files you obtain from design.dev in any format (including OTF, TTF and WOFF2); the glyph outlines, hinting, OpenType features, metadata and code they contain; any documentation supplied with them; and every copy, conversion, subset or update of them. Text in an End Product that has been rendered as an image or converted to outlines is not Font Software, but Sections 4.6 and 4.7 still apply to it.
- Font Product: a font or font family sold on design.dev for a single price. One license covers every style and file format included in that Font Product's download.
- Licensee: the organization on whose behalf you accepted under Section 1.2; otherwise, the individual or legal entity named as licensee on the Receipt. Parent companies, subsidiaries and other affiliates are not covered unless they buy their own licenses.
- User: one individual who installs or uses the Font Software for the Licensee, meaning the Licensee itself if it is an individual, or one of its employees, owners, partners, directors or officers.
- Device: a computer, tablet or phone on which the Font Software is installed or activated for use in its operating system or applications. A server, or a device that holds the Font Software only inside a Website's or App's code, is not a Device.
- Website: web pages served from one or more domains owned or controlled by the Licensee.
- Webfont: the WOFF2 files supplied with the Font Product, or web files you generate from the Font Software as Section 6 allows.
- App: any software, mobile or desktop application, game, plugin, operating system, firmware, hardware device or interactive product, other than a Website, that contains the Font Software or uses it to display text that its users can change.
- E-book: an ePub, Kindle or similar electronic publication that contains the Font Software.
- End Product: anything you make using the Font Software, such as artwork, documents, websites, videos or merchandise.
3. License grant
Once you have paid, we grant the Licensee a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, non-transferable (except under Section 7.3) and non-sublicensable license to use the Font Software of the purchased Font Product, for personal and commercial purposes, only as Sections 3, 6 and 7 allow.
3.1 Desktop
Each license covers one User, who may install and use the Font Software on up to 3 Devices. The Licensee needs one license for each User. On a cloud design service, each person who can use the font in the Licensee's account is a User, and the font must not be available to anyone outside the Licensee except contractors under Section 7.1.
3.2 Print and physical products
You may create and distribute unlimited printed and physical End Products, including items for sale such as books, packaging, signage, apparel and merchandise, subject to Section 4.6.
3.3 Logos and trademarks
You may use the Font Software to create logos, wordmarks and brand identities and register them as trademarks. You own your logo, but you gain no ownership of or exclusive rights in the Font Software, and others may license the same Font Product.
3.4 Websites
You may self-host the Webfont and display it through CSS @font-face on Websites, with no limit on traffic or number of sites. You must:
- host the Webfont only on servers or CDN accounts you control;
- use only Webfont formats on the web, never the OTF or TTF desktop files;
- take reasonable steps to stop other sites from linking to or downloading the Webfont, such as restricting cross-origin access to your own domains; and
- keep the copyright notice in the Webfont files intact.
3.5 Images, video and social media
You may use text rendered in the Font Software in images and video of any kind, including social media, presentations, film, television, streaming and advertising, without limit.
3.6 Apps, e-books, documents and digital ads
You may embed the Font Software in Apps, E-books and HTML5 or other digital ads that the Licensee publishes, and in PDFs and other documents the Licensee sends to anyone, in unlimited numbers and copies, with no limit on users, readers or impressions. You must:
- embed the font, subset where practical, so that it is not offered to people as a separate font file they can open, install or reuse through ordinary use of that product, for example by bundling it inside the App's package or code, using the format's font obfuscation, or using only a subset Webfont in HTML5 ads;
- embed the font in documents and E-books in a way that lets recipients at most view and print text in the font, and take reasonable steps, such as embedding only a subset or sending PDFs instead of editable files, so they cannot edit that text or type new text in it; and
- comply with Section 4.5.
3.7 Templates and digital designs
You may sell or give away templates, printables, graphics, SVG and cut files, mockups and other digital designs made with the Font Software if text in the font is converted to outlines or flattened into an image. You may also distribute editable templates that use the Font Product if you leave the font files out and tell recipients to license it from design.dev. Section 4.6 applies either way.
3.8 Backups
You may keep a reasonable number of backup copies, stored securely and not installed or in use.
4. Restrictions
Any use Sections 3, 6 and 7 do not expressly allow is not licensed. You may not:
4.1 Redistribute
Share, sell, rent, lend, sublicense, give away or otherwise make the Font Software available to anyone outside the Licensee, except as Sections 3.4, 3.6 and 7 allow.
4.2 Upload publicly
Upload the Font Software to any public or shared location, including file-sharing and font-sharing sites, public code repositories, or drives and design-tool libraries that people outside the Licensee can access. This does not stop you serving the Webfont from your Website under Section 3.4 (never from a public code repository), distributing products with the font embedded under Section 3.6, or sharing with contractors under Section 7.1.
4.3 Ship the font unprotected
Include the Font Software in any App, E-book, document, ad or other product except as Sections 3.4 and 3.6 allow.
4.4 Share editable files with the font
Distribute templates, themes, editable design files or mockups that include the Font Software or give recipients access to it, including shared cloud design templates. Section 3.7 explains how to distribute templates.
4.5 Let others typeset with it
Use the Font Software in a website, App, kiosk or service, or in any feature of one, that lets other people create designs, products or images from their own text in the font, such as name generators, print-on-demand personalizers, logo makers or design apps. Taking personalization orders that you typeset yourself on your own Devices is allowed, and so is displaying ordinary text people enter while using a Website or App, such as messages, usernames or form entries.
4.6 Sell the lettering itself
Sell End Products whose main value is the letterforms themselves, such as alphabet sticker sets, stencils, rub-on letters, or cut files and vector sets of individual characters. The same applies to products where a single glyph, such as an ornament or icon, is the sole design element, unless that glyph is used as your own logo or brand mark.
4.7 Make fonts
Use the Font Software, its outlines or its rendered characters to create, trace, interpolate or otherwise derive any other font, typeface or reusable set of letterforms, such as an alphabet or character set. Customizing the letters of a specific logo or artwork under Section 6.1 is allowed.
4.8 Train AI
Use the Font Software, or specimens, character sets or other data made to depict its characters, to train, fine-tune, test or improve any machine-learning or AI model, or to generate fonts or lettering imitating the Font Product. Using AI-enabled design software to make ordinary End Products is allowed, as long as you do not submit the font files themselves for training.
4.9 Reverse engineer or strip notices
Decompile, disassemble or reverse engineer the Font Software, or remove or alter its copyright notices, embedded license data or embedding permissions, except as an automatic result of subsetting or embedding that this Agreement allows, or where applicable law expressly allows it despite this restriction.
4.10 Rename
Distribute or present the Font Software under a different name, or use our names or trademarks except to credit the Font Product accurately.
4.11 Use preview files
Download, extract, decode, convert or otherwise use the preview font files that design.dev uses for its type testers and font samples, except by viewing them on design.dev. Preview files are not part of any license.
5. Ownership and intellectual property
5.1 Our rights
We, or the designers who license their work to us, own all rights in the Font Software. This includes copyright in the font software and its code, any design rights, and trademark rights in the Font Product names.
5.2 No transfer
This Agreement transfers no ownership of the Font Software to you. You receive only the license in Section 3.
5.3 Your work
You own the End Products you create, subject to our rights in the Font Software contained in or used to make them.
5.4 Contractual protection
Your obligations under this Agreement are binding contractual promises. They apply whether or not a particular element of the Font Software is protected by copyright or other intellectual property law where you are.
6. Modifications and conversions
6.1 Allowed
You may convert the Font Software to other formats (such as WOFF2) and subset it, solely for uses Section 3 allows. You may also convert text to outlines in your artwork and reshape those outlines, for example to customize a logo, subject to Sections 4.6 and 4.7.
6.2 Not allowed
You may not otherwise edit the font files, including their glyphs, metrics, kerning, OpenType features, names or embedding permissions. Ask us about custom modifications.
6.3 Still Font Software
Converted, subset or modified font files remain Font Software and are fully covered by this Agreement.
7. Contractors, clients and transfers
7.1 Contractors
You may give the Font Software temporarily to a designer, developer, printer or other contractor working on your project, if they use it only for your work, agree in writing to follow this Agreement, and delete all copies when the work ends. Each license allows one such contractor at a time, who does not need a license of their own, and you are responsible for their compliance.
7.2 Client work
Designers and agencies may use their license to create End Products for clients and deliver finished artwork, such as images, outlined vector files, PDFs under Section 3.6 and printed items. A client that needs to install the font, edit files that use it, host the Webfont on its own Website, or embed the font in its own products must buy its own license. You may not host the Webfont on a client's Website under your license.
7.3 Transfers
You may not transfer or assign this license, except to a successor that acquires all or substantially all of the Licensee's business or assets. You must notify us within 30 days of that transfer, and the former Licensee must then stop using and delete the Font Software.
8. Payment, delivery and refunds
8.1 Price
The license fee is the total shown at checkout. There are no renewal or recurring fees.
8.2 Delivery
Download links are provided immediately after payment and in your Receipt email. Keep your own copies; re-downloads are offered as a convenience and are not guaranteed. We are not required to provide updates or support, but any update we provide is covered by this Agreement.
8.3 Refunds
Because font files cannot be returned, and subject to Sections 8.4 and 8.5, all sales are final except in these cases:
- Defective files. If you report within 30 days of purchase that the Font Software is defective or not as described, and we cannot fix or replace it within 14 days of your report, we refund the price.
- Duplicate purchases. If you accidentally buy the same Font Product twice and tell us within 30 days, we refund the duplicate.
When we issue a refund, the refunded license ends. Unless another license you hold still covers the same Font Product, you must delete all copies of the Font Software it covered.
8.4 EU, EEA and UK consumers
If you buy as a consumer in the EU, EEA or UK, you normally have a 14-day right to withdraw from a distance contract. For digital content not supplied on a tangible medium, you lose that right once the download begins, if at checkout you expressly asked us to start supply immediately and acknowledged that you would lose your right of withdrawal. The Receipt confirms the purchase. It does not itself record that consent. If you did not give that consent, you may withdraw within 14 days by emailing us at [email protected], after which you must delete the Font Software.
8.5 Statutory rights
Nothing in this Agreement limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by contract, including rights to digital content that conforms to the contract.
8.6 Payment reversal
If your payment is charged back, reversed or not received, your license ends automatically without notice and Section 10.4 applies.
8.7 Discontinuation
We may stop selling any Font Product, or stop selling fonts altogether, at any time and without notice. After we do:
- licenses already purchased continue under the version of this Agreement in effect when they were bought, unless they end under another Section of this Agreement, such as Section 10.3 or 10.8, and your obligations under them still apply;
- we have no further duty to sell, deliver, re-deliver, update, support or replace the Font Software, to verify or reissue licenses or Receipts, or to keep design.dev or any product page, download or account available;
- no refund, credit or other compensation is due because of the discontinuation; and
- claims already made under Sections 8.3, 8.4 and 9.1 before the discontinuation, and rights under Section 8.5, are unaffected.
Keep your own copies of the Font Software, this Agreement and your Receipt. After a discontinuation, they may be the only record of your license.
9. Warranty, liability and indemnity
9.1 Limited warranty
For 30 days after purchase, we warrant that the Font Software will perform substantially as described on its product page when used with current mainstream operating systems and software. Your remedy under this warranty is repair, replacement or a refund of the price, at our choice. This warranty is in addition to your rights under Section 8.5.
9.2 Disclaimer
EXCEPT AS SECTION 9.1 STATES, AND TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, THE FONT SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT AND ERROR-FREE OPERATION.
9.3 Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, LOST DATA, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, OR COSTS OF REPRINTING, REBRANDING OR REPLACING END PRODUCTS. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO A LICENSE IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THAT LICENSE. THESE LIMITS ARE AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THIS AGREEMENT, AND THE PRICE OF THE LICENSE REFLECTS THEM. THEY APPLY EVEN IF A REMEDY FAILS OF ITS ESSENTIAL PURPOSE, AND THEY ARE SUBJECT TO SECTION 9.4.
9.4 What we do not exclude
Nothing in this Agreement excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
9.5 Indemnity
If you are a business, you will compensate us, to the extent the law allows, for losses, including reasonable legal costs, arising from your breach of this Agreement or any unlicensed use of the Font Software by you or anyone you gave it to. If you are a consumer, you are liable only for losses that were a foreseeable result of your breach.
9.6 Safety-critical use
The Font Software sets type. It is not designed, tested or certified for safety-critical use, meaning any system in which a failure, error or misreading of text rendered by the Font Software could cause death, personal injury, serious property damage or serious environmental harm, such as the controls of an aircraft, vehicle or medical device, or of an industrial or hazardous process. If you use the Font Software in such a system, you alone are responsible for testing, validating and certifying that use, and Section 9.1 does not cover it. If you are a business, you will also compensate us, to the extent the law allows, for losses, including reasonable legal costs, arising from that use. Signage, labels, documentation, branding and marketing in these industries are ordinary uses, not safety-critical use.
10. Term, termination and compliance
10.1 Term
This license lasts indefinitely unless it ends under this Section or Section 8.
10.2 Extra Users
If more people use the Font Software than the Licensee has licenses for, buy the missing licenses within 30 days after the end of the month in which this first happened. Doing so fully cures that breach.
10.3 Termination for breach
If you breach this Agreement and do not fix the breach within 30 days of our written notice, we may terminate your license. We may terminate immediately, without a cure period, for breaches of Sections 4.1 to 4.5, 4.7 or 4.8.
10.4 After termination
You must stop using the Font Software, delete every copy (including Webfonts on servers), and confirm deletion in writing if we ask. Copies of End Products distributed before termination, such as printed goods sold or E-book and App copies already downloaded by customers, may stay in circulation, but you may not create new End Products or distribute further copies of any End Product that contains the Font Software.
10.5 Compliance check
On our reasonable written request, no more than once every 12 months, you will confirm in writing how many Users and Devices use the Font Software.
10.6 Other remedies
Termination and the cure in Section 10.2 do not limit any other remedy we have for unlicensed use, including damages and court orders to stop it.
10.7 Survival
Sections 4, 5, 9, 10.4, 10.8 and 11 continue after this license ends, including after a refund.
10.8 Termination for legal risk
We may end a license by written notice if we reasonably believe that continuing it creates a material legal, intellectual-property or regulatory risk, including a credible claim that the Font Software infringes someone else's rights. We may limit the ending to the affected Font Product or uses. We give reasonable notice before the license ends where the risk allows; otherwise it ends when we send the notice. If we end a license under this Section, we refund the price you paid for it, and Section 10.4 then applies. Ending sales under Section 8.7 does not by itself end licenses already purchased.
11. Governing law and general terms
11.1 Governing law
This Agreement is governed by the laws of the U.S. state in which the operator of design.dev is organized, and by applicable U.S. federal law, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. The UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of mandatory laws of your country of residence.
11.2 Disputes
If you are in the United States, disputes are resolved under the Dispute Resolution section of our Terms of Service, including individual binding arbitration and the waiver of class actions and jury trials. Otherwise, the state and federal courts located in the state described in Section 11.1 have exclusive jurisdiction, except where mandatory consumer law gives a consumer the right to bring claims in the courts where they live. We may seek urgent relief to stop unlicensed use of the Font Software in any competent court.
11.3 Changes
We may publish new versions of this Agreement for future purchases. A new version does not change a license you have already bought unless you agree to it in writing.
11.4 Entire agreement
This Agreement and your Receipt are the entire agreement between us about the Font Software. They prevail over product-page descriptions of license rights and over the summary above, and only a written agreement signed by us can vary them. Product-page descriptions of the Font Software itself, such as its styles, formats and character set, remain part of what we must supply.
11.5 Severability and waiver
If a court finds any provision unenforceable, it applies to the maximum extent allowed and the rest of this Agreement remains in force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
11.6 Assignment by us
We may assign this Agreement to a successor to the design.dev business, and your license continues on the same terms.
11.7 Sanctions and export
You confirm you are not located in, or acting for anyone located in, a country or on a list subject to applicable sanctions, and you will comply with applicable export laws.
11.8 Notices and language
We send notices to the email address on your Receipt; you send them to us using the contact details published on design.dev. If this Agreement is translated, the English version governs where the law allows.
12. Contact
For questions about this Agreement, or written permission for a use it does not cover, contact us at [email protected].
