# Warm print magazine: component law

Every control is printed in the same issue as the feature. When unsure, ask what a well-set reply card or ledger would do.

## Masthead

Publication name in `masthead` serif, centered, on a 3px ink rule. Beneath it one row: nav left in `chrome`, dateline right in `label` small caps, mute. The row closes with the view's one vermillion rule.

## Heading / dek

Kicker in `label` small caps, vermillion (this is vermillion use one). Title in `display`, roman, balanced, hung punctuation. Dek in `dek` italic, mute. No sans anywhere in the heading group.

## Byline

Rail, columns 10 to 12, bottom-aligned with the title. A 1px ink rule above, then `label` small caps in mute.

## Pull quote

Rail, under the byline, aligned to the top of the dek. `quote` italic in ink with a hung opening quote mark. Once per feature. Never centered, never boxed, never given a bar.

## Body

`body` serif on columns 1 to 8, justified, hyphenated, old-style numerals. Drop cap in ink (never vermillion), three lines deep via `initial-letter`, float fallback.

## Figure

Full grid width. Media on columns 1 to 8 at 16:9, duotone: cream sun, ink ground, sienna sky, 4px halftone screen multiplied on top. Caption in the rail, bottom-aligned: `label` small caps figure number in ink, then `small` serif in mute. No photographs, no gradients that read as UI.

## Link

Inherit color. 1px underline in `hair`, offset 0.18em. Hover: underline goes ink. No vermillion, no color change on hover.

## Nav

`chrome` sans uppercase, ink, 21px gaps, no underline. Current state is weight, not color.

## Contents list (cards)

Three columns divided by hairlines, no fill, no radius, no top-rule badge. Bounded by a 1px ink rule above and a hairline below. Each entry: `label` number in mute, `entry` serif title in ink, `small` summary in mute. On narrow screens the dividers become horizontal hairlines.

## Section head

A 3px ink rule, 14px, then `section` serif title left and a `chrome` sans note right on one baseline. Inside a split that already opens with a 1px rule, drop the 3px rule.

## Table

`table` sans, lining tabular numerals. Heads: 11px uppercase, semibold, on a 1px ink rule. Rows: hairline. Numeric columns right-aligned. Caption visually hidden or set as the section note. No zebra, no hover wash, no status pills, no icon column.

## Pagination

`chrome` sans in mute separated by middots. Current is ink semibold. No boxes, no arrows in circles.

## Form label

`chrome` sans uppercase in mute, directly above the rule, no gap.

## Input

No box. Serif `body` value on a 1px ink baseline rule, transparent ground, radius 0. Placeholder in mute at 70%. Focus: the rule becomes a double rule (2px ink, 2px paper, 1px ink). No outline ring, no color change.

## Checkbox

Native, 15px, `accent-color` ink. Label in sans 13px.

## Button

Primary: ink fill, `on-ink` type in serif small caps, 0.12em, padding 10px 21px, radius 0. Hover: fill goes vermillion (this is vermillion use three). Focus: 2px ink outline offset 3px.

## Ghost button

No fill, no side borders. A serif small-caps label on a 1px ink baseline rule. Hover thickens the rule to 2px. Sits 28px to the right of the primary.

## Tabs

A small-caps index: `chrome` sans uppercase in mute, separated by middots, on a hairline. Selected is ink semibold. No underline indicator, no sliding bar, no motion.

## Alert / notice

A block of `tint` with a double rule on top (3px, 2px gap, 1px) and a 1px ink rule below. Title in `label` small caps ink, body in `small` serif text. Not a toast, no icon, no colored left bar.

## Footer / colophon

3px ink rule with a 1px rule 2px beneath it. Publication mark centered in `label` small caps ink, then the links centered in `chrome` sans mute separated by middots.

## Empty state

One sentence of `body` serif in mute and a ghost button. No illustration.

## Compose: command palette

Paper slip on a warm 45% ink overlay, no blur. Search is a baseline-rule input. Results: serif titles, sans shortcuts right-aligned in `chrome`. Active row: ink text, semibold title, hairline above and below. No wash, no vermillion, no cyan.

## Compose: modal

Printed notice. Cream sheet, double rule at the top, small-caps title, serif body, primary + ghost buttons as above. Close is a word. Overlay is warm dim, not black.

## Compose: toast

Prefer the notice inline. If it must float, a `tint` slip with a double rule, bottom-left, no shadow, no timer bar.
